Het is zeker al 30 jaar geleden want ik kan niet veel ouder dan 13 jaar zijn geweest toen dit gebeurde...

De handwerkzaak bij ons in het dorp was 1 van mijn favoriete plaatsen om te winkelen en te kijken naar handwerkartikelen. De markt was goedkoper, zeker de markt in Den Bosch waar mijn zakgeld voor 80% naar toe ging maar de handwerkzaak had speciale dingetjes die je op de markt niet zag..

Op een dag, vlak na mijn verjaardag, herinner ik me dat ik daar stond en ik was 'rijk'. Het geld van mijn verjaardag in mijn zak en ik stond uit te kiezen. Dat was niet altijd het geval, vaak bleef het helaas bij 'kijken' maar deze keer was ik echt aan het uitkiezen. Ik vermaakte me prima.

Toen kwam 'De Vrouw' binnen. Na 2 minuten wist ik al dat ze niet echt kon of wilde handwerken, ze wist nergens van maar wilde 'het toch maar eens gaan proberen'. Daarna heb ik mijn verstand staan vergapen want 'De Vrouw' kocht alles wat de eigenaar van de winkel maar zei dat ze nodig had. Het was ongelofelijk, het mandje was boordevol, zoveel handwerkspullen kon ik in een heel jaar nog geeneens betalen. De meeste artikelen waren overigens op de markt veel goedkoper geweest maar dat maakte voor 'De Vouw' duidelijk niet uit.

Aan de ene kant vroeg ik me af: "Wie zijn dit soort mensen, die alles zomaar uit kunnen kiezen en dan kopen? Terwijl ze het waarschijnlijk helemaal nooit gaan gebruiken?" Ik kon er met mijn verstand niet bij, snapte er niets van want zo ging dat bij ons thuis dus echt niet. Als je iets nog niet kon dan mocht je het eerst proberen met 'geleende spullen' en dan zouden we wel eens kijken of we de hobby voor je aan zullen schaffen.

Aan de andere kant moest ik echt lachen om deze vrouw, die zich alles aan liet smeren door de winkelier want veel dingen waren dus echt niet nodig. Na deze ervaring is mijn liefde voor de handwerkzaak ook verminderd en ik ben er nooit meer met zoveel plezier naar binnen gegaan want ineens was de winkelier een beetje een boef ik mijn ogen. Geen zorgen hoor, de zaak bestaat allang niet meer : )

Maar waarom vertel ik dit nu allemaal? Donderdag ben ik jarig en elk jaar herinner ik me dit verhaal. Ja, ik moet het toegeven, ik ben een beetje op De Vrouw gaan lijken want mijn handwerkspullen worden tegenwoordig ook gewoon gekocht MAAR ik weet gelukkig heel goed wat ik nodig heb : ) Ahum, soms zijn er ook wel luxe dingen, mijn naaimachine is daar een voorbeeld van maar alles wordt hier lang en heel veel gebruikt.

Tja, ik ben ouder geworden en weet dat ik het erg goed heb, mijn hobby heb ik na al die jaren nog steeds en mijn spulletjes kan ik goed betalen. Ik heb daarnet mijn verjaardagscadeau voor dit jaar gekocht, een abonnement voor de Silhouette Online Shop en ga hier heel veel en lang gebruik van maken : )

Today was Wednesday-Sewing-Day and the little doll snuggy sack for 43cm dolls is finished, I had a fantastic time, this little cutie is great fun to make! I have added both a zipper and shoulder snaps for ease of use but also because I always feel it's nicer if doll clothes 'do' things.

I love fabric-zipper-pull-details but when I was all done, this always happens when you are done, ha, I noticed that my zipper eye would never fit any fabric so some magic was needed : ). I used a small jewelry finding, a ribbon crimp or ribbon end, and split ring to attach my fabric pull.

Gratis poppenslaapzak patroon, achterkant*

Ta-da de slaapzak is klaar. Het is echt een heel leuk project om te maken en vandaag was dan ook een vrolijke dag hier in huis. De poppenslaapzak heeft een rits en drukkers want het is altijd leuk als poppenkleertjes dingetjes 'doen', hoe meer hoe liever : )

Stoffen liggen klaar om doorgestikt te worden

Het is even werken als je zelf ook de stof doorstikt want dat zijn toch wel lengtes die je allemaal moet stikken maar het is het waard. Ik heb mijn stoffen eerst op dunne wattine gestreken met speciale 'tijdelijke quilters spray'.

Het doorstikken heb ik daarna op het oog gedaan, is ook niet allemaal even recht geworden maar dat is de charme van handgemaakt dingetjes. Behalve bij de stippenstof, dat ging prima want daar kon ik mooi langs de stippen naaien, als een klein treintje ging dat!

Now that the doll bedding is ready, we need something for the doll of course. We used to have a pattern called Twinkle Twinkle on the website. That pattern has been archived, it will not be sold anymore, so I have taken the snuggy sack from that pattern, updated it a little, and I will add it to the free doll pattern collection.

As you can see in the photo, I have finished the free baby born snuggly sack pattern... now I need to sew the actual snuggy sack and start making the pattern ready for distribution.

I'm working on the pattern pieces for the free doll bedding pattern

The pattern pieces are slowly making their way into my computer. I find that most pieces are too large to be printed and these will need to be cut to size. The blanket, the summer sheet and the duvet are those pieces. But as you can see, the other ones are ready. Now I'm starting on the sewing description....

Free Doll Bedding pattern for Ikea Duktig doll bed

The winter set is a bit smaller than the summer set : ) It uses the same mattress, pillows, mattress coversheet and has a reversible duvet.

The duvet is soft and fluffy and can actually be tucked in at the edges if needed, I wanted it  to be that big : ). For smaller girls this is a lovely piece because it's so easy to use.

This pattern is not especially designed to be sewn by young seamstresses but I feel that most of these items can be sewn by younger seamstresses, with some help of course. The last two pieces, that I'm making, will be more complicated and will require some skills.

I think that I will complete this part of the pattern first because the summer and winter bedding items are all easy to make and that way everyone can start : ). The last 2 pieces will follow later.

Zapf® BABY Born® dolls fit beautifully in the Ikea Duktig Doll Bed.

When I bought the Ikea Duktig doll bed I did not realize that the Zapf® BABY Born® dolls would fit so well in the bed. I knew that the length was correct but sometimes these things come together even better than expected, this is one of those times.

As you can see, with the doll in the bed, there is enough fabric in the sheet and blanket to tuck her in. This was something that I always liked as a child, that the bedding was large enough so I could tuck my 'baby' in. And that is something that I felt was very important for this pattern.

I used minkee fabric for the little blanket. It's a pretty heavy weight knit fabric but it's not at all stiff. It forms well and looks a little more natural. The duvet/comforter is next and that will be quite a different story : )

Mijn Zapf BABY Born popje is helemaal klaar voor de nacht. Toen ik het bedje kocht wist ik niet zeker of het wel helemaal mooi zou zijn, de lengte was goed dat wist ik wel, maar dat Zapf BABY Born® poppen zo mooi in het Ikea bedje zouden passen, dat wist ik niet. Soms moet je een beetje geluk hebben : )

Zoals je ziet, kan de pop fijn ingestopt worden. Het lakentje en de deken zijn breed en lang genoeg. Dat vond ik toen ik klein was altijd fijn: dat de 'baby' goed ingestopt kon worden : ) en dat wilde ik voor dit patroon natuurlijk dan ook zeker.

Voor het dekentje heb ik een heel soepele gebreide maar toch zware stof gebruikt, minkee, dan valt het het dekentje mooi en is niet zo stijf. Ik ga nu het dekbed maken en daar zal het een beetje anders zijn : )

The bright and happy summer part of the Free Doll Bedding Pattern is finished.

The summer set consists of:
- a flat sheet to cover the mattress
- a white flat sheet with a wide hem in a print fabric
- a reversible blanket
- two fluffy pillows with different front and back.

Free Doll Bedding Pattern, rotatable flat sheet.

The mattress cover sheet is 'rotatable' and will work for both the summer and winter set. Tomorrow I will add photo's with the doll in her bed, yes, in case you are wondering, the Zapf® BABY Born® dolls fit beautifully in this bed. It's a very cute sight.

Het frisse en vrolijke zomer beddengoed is klaar.

Het zomersetje bestaat uit:
- een gekleurd onderlaken uit 4 vlakken
- een wit lakentje met gekleurde strip voor de bovenkant
- een dekentje dat aan twee kanten gebruikt kan worden
- twee kussens die ook aan de voor- en achterkant verschillend zijn

Het hoeslakentje kun je omdraaien voor de winter

Het onderlaken kun je omdraaien en dan komt de 'winterkant' boven te liggen. Morgen zal ik foto's maken van de pop in haar bedje. En ja, mocht je het je afvragen, Zapf® BABY Born® poppen passen perfect in dit bedje. Het is een heel schattig gezicht.

The Riley Blake website

Some of you have asked me about the fabrics that I'm using for the free doll bedding pattern. The fabrics are first class quilt fabrics. The line is called Sunny Happy Skies and it's made by Riley Blake.The fabrics are designed by Stephanie Hunt.

Sunny Happy Skies is a collection of 22 different fabrics and I'll be using a fat quarter of each.

Creating the mattress. Cut layers of fiberfill until you have total height of 6cm

To create the mattress, you start with cutting fiberfill layers that fit exactly in the bed. The inside bed is 48cm x 31cm. You keep adding layers until you have 6cm in total height. For me this was three layers. I like mattresses that are very lofty : )

The fiberfill doll bed mattress is covered with fabric. This is the summer side.

I covered the doll bed mattress with the fabrics from my free fabric bundle : ) and as you can see it's an amazing bundle. Because my fat quarters are directional and I did not want to use the fabric sideways, I had to add strips to the top and the bottom. It works out fine.

This is the other side of the mattress, the winter side.

To secure the fiberfill layers and prevent them from shifting around inside, I stitched 6 buttons through the mattress, front to back. The actual pattern will be available later.... 

Ikea Doll Bed ready for new bedding

A few weeks ago I ordered a Silhouette Cameo machine. I use this machine most days and needed an additional one for when I'm scrapping at my friends house so I don't have to keep unhooking mine.

The machine I ordered had a special offer for 3 free fat quarters. To my great surprise, when it arrived it had three BUNDLES of fat quarters, so I received 75 fat quarters with a value of some $150. This was obviously an error and, even though I really wanted to keep the fabric, I emailed about the mistake and was ready to ship the fabrics back.

To my even greater surprise I received a lovely email from the company thanking me for my honesty and it said "please keep the extra bundles and enjoy the fabric" : ) ... Needless to say, I had a great day!

Why am I telling you all this? Well, I have decided to use the fabric to make a doll bedding pattern and I will give this pattern out for free download. Since not everyone can make a wooden doll bed, I have bought the Ikea Duktig bed and will make the pattern especially for that size. The Ikea doll bed is not exactly cheap, it's $25, but it is real wood and with the extras that I'll be making, it should make a very nice gift : )

Eerlijkheid duurt het langst. Een paar weken geleden bestelde ik een elektronische snijmachine. Er was een speciale aanbieding en ik kreeg 3 gratis 'fat quarters'. Dat zijn stukjes stof van precies een kwart yard.

Toen de machine arriveerde zaten er niet 3 fat quarters in de doos maar 3 bundeltjes van 25. Ik had dus 75 stofjes gekregen en zo'n $150 aan gratis stof.

Dit was duidelijk een fout en al wilde ik de stof heel erg graag houden, ik heb het bedrijf gemaild en verteld dat ik veel teveel had gekregen en de stofjes lagen klaar om weer teruggestuurd te worden.

Tot mijn grote verbazing kreeg ik een hele vriendelijke email waarin ik bedankt werd voor mijn eerlijkheid en ik mocht de stofjes houden en heel veel plezier met mijn bundeltjes. Dat was echt meteen een geweldige dag!

Maar waarom vertel ik dit nu allemaal? Ik heb besloten om met de stof een poppenbedje aan te kleden en het patroon van het beddengoed wordt een gratis download. Omdat niet iedereen zelf een houten bedje kan maken heb ik het Ikea Duktig bedje gekocht en daar ga ik alles voor maken. Het bedje is niet echt goedkoop* maar ik hoop met alle dingetjes die ik ervoor ga maken, dat het een leuk cadeautje zal zijn.

Wollyonline BD1203, Teeny Casuals Preview

Yes, it's true, I'm making a new pattern. It's been so very long and I really want to make something new! It all happened when I was looking at dolls, I tend to do that a lot : ) and saw the 32cm 'hard bodied' My Little BABY Born® doll by Zapf Creations®. This doll is so very very cute, I had to have it.

These dolls are not for sale here in the USA but my mother-in-law was so nice to buy me one and send her all the way over from Holland to Texas. When she arrived, I knew that this doll needed some fab clothes. First of course she needed a brand-new diaper and you see that she already has one.

It's going to take quite a while before the pattern is available but I'm so happy that I'm going to be making a new pattern, it's made my day! I will make it in Dutch and English and those languages will go live the same day.

Ja, het is echt waar, ik ben eindelijk weer aan een nieuw patroon begonnen. Je kunt echt maar zoveel digitaliseren voordat je toch weer wat nieuws wilt maken. Ik was een beetje naar poppen aan het kijken en toen ik dit kleintje zag wist ik dat dit een nieuw patroon in de dop was. Ze is 32cm groot, een kleine BABY Born® pop met hard lijfje en ze is heel schattig, dit popje moest natuurlijk mooie kleertjes!

Deze poppen kun je in Amerika niet kopen maar mijn schoonmoeder, Marijke, heeft haar in Nederland gekocht en opgestuurd naar Texas. Ze was in haar blootje, ik wil poppen graag zonder kleertjes omdat ik dan helemaal 'nieuw' kan beginnen en ze had natuurlijk een nieuw luiertje nodig. Het luiertje is klaar zoals je kunt zien :)

Het gaat nog wel even duren hoor voordat het patroon er ook daadwerkelijk is maar ik ben echt heel blij dat ik weer aan iets nieuws kan beginnen.

One of my cards created with my Silhouette Cameo

When I'm not designing doll clothes I create scrapbooking embellishments for the NICU unit in the Texas Children's Hospital and I create quick and easy cards with a machine called a Silhouette Cameo. Here is my new blog where you can see all my cards: My Silhouette Cameo

I cannot sew or translate for very long periods, still injured, will this ever go away?! So I take breaks in the shape of easy and light paper crafting. It's fun and I think that I'm a little addicted to my silhouette cameo machine : )

The cards that I make are quick and fun, it's fantastic. I love all the great and truly handmade cards I see on the internet, those are works of art, mine are obviously not like that but I don't have all that much time and so I do what I can.

I start with white paper, some digital images, foam tape and that is pretty much it. I print the digital images on the paper and cut them with the machine, this machine knows to cut right around the images on the paper. I then place the elements on my card to create the design and stick it all down with foam tape, perfectly easy!

Baby Beach for 43cm dolls is next...if my arm holds....

Over the last few weeks quite a few customers have asked me if everything is alright and what is happening... well, I'm pretty much fine but I have been dealing with a shoulder injury for months, I remember that the first signs started on my birthday and my birthday is November 29th : (

Several treatments of various specialties later, I'm doing much better but because of all the pain, I have been moving differently and now I have an nice 'add-on' in an elbow injury, what can I say? When it rains it pours!

The main problem is that I always overload my right arm, between sewing, computer work, tennis and paper crafts I'm basically asking for trouble and since I'm getting older in a hurry, trouble has found me.

Thank you so much for asking! I'm kind of humbled by the nice emails, thank you so much : ) This week things are finally looking up and the next pattern I'll be working on will be the bathing suit one : )

De laatste tijd hebben een aantal klanten me gevraagd of het wel goed met me gaat. Het gaat eigenlijk prima maar ik heb een schouder blessure die maar niet weg wil gaan. Ik weet dat ik op mijn verjaardag de eerste problemen voelde en ik ben op 29 november jarig dus dat wil wel wat zeggen, bleh.

Een behoorlijk aantal behandelingen, van verschillend pluimage later, ben ik veel beter maar omdat ik zo raar ben gaan bewegen van de pijn heb ik er een elleboog blessure overheen gekregen, tja, als het dan mis gaat, dan ook maar meteen heel grondig aanpakken!

Het probleem is dat ik eigenlijk altijd mijn rechtse arm overwerk. Computer werk, naaiwerk, tennis en heel veel papier hobby's en dan vraag je toch eigenlijk wel om problemen. Nu ik ouder ben, roep ik denk ik om problemen en heb ze nu dan ook fijn gekregen.

Doll Jeans Sewing Technique Videos

Last weekend, I made a few sewing technique videos for the doll jeans pattern that I designed for MiloMila. In the videos you can see how to sew and create various parts of doll jeans:

Prachtige poppenkleertjes gemaakt door Marijke Snoei.

Vandaag is het weer tijd voor Klasse Klantenwerk. Het mooie setje, dat je in de foto ziet, is gemaakt door Marijke Snoei. Marijke heeft goed gecombineerde stoffen in verschillende blauwe kleuren gebruikt en de kleertjes zijn natuurlijk allemaal weer piekfijn gemaakt : ).

Marijke en ik waren van de week allebei bezig met het maken van kleertjes voor 'onze' American Girl Dolls, daar mailen we samen leuk over, maar zoals je ziet, soms komt er weer even iets anders tussendoor en dit soort kleertjes mogen natuurlijk gezien worden. Het is een plaatje!

I just finished digitizing our Summer Fun baby doll clothes sewing pattern and I have added  the pattern to the Wollyonline website. Bed & Basics Baby Doll patterns with a real Doll Canopy Bed, 36cm

Over the years I have made quite a few pieces of doll clothing and doll furniture, most of the doll clothes and furniture that I make, I give away. This is the only pattern where I have kept every single piece, it's just too cute to give away : )

The doll canopy bed takes some time to make but it's very much worth it when the little bed is ready. The clothes are very easy to sew. I used an easy sleeve design for the clothes and for these small clothes it works really well.

Over de jaren heb ik natuurlijk heel veel verschillende poppenkleertjes en meubeltjes gemaakt. Ik geef deze altijd weg maar van dit patroon heb ik alles gehouden, dit is echt te schattig om weg te geven : )

Het poppenhemelbedje kost even wat tijd om te maken maar als het klaar is, is het het werk meer dan waard. De kleertjes zijn heel eenvoudig om te maken. Voor dit patroon heb ik een mouw ontwerp gekozen dat heel eenvoudig in te zetten is. Met dit soort kleine kleertjes is dat echt een voordeel.

Wollyonline winter pattern for BABY Born ® dolls

Snow Play, our Wollyonline pattern suitable for BABY Born ® dolls, is available on the Wollyonline website. As you can see in the photos, it's a very large and fun pattern. What you see is the first page of the doll pattern.

This pattern is only available in Dutch. It will be a while before I will start translating doll patterns again. If you are looking for a winter clothes doll pattern, suitable for BABY Born ® dolls, in English or German please look at our Warm Winter doll clothes pattern, that one is available in both languages.

Ik heb zojuist het Wollyonline Snow Play Poppenkleertjes Patroon toegevoegd aan de website. Het is een mooi groot patroon met veel kleertjes. Op het plaatje zie je de eerste pagina van het patroon.

Voor veel kleertjes heb ik fleece gebruikt en fleece werkt erg gemakkelijk. Let er wel op dat je geen al te dikke fleece gebruikt want het zijn maar kleine kleertjes. Al met al een heel fijn patroon om mee te werken. Het stikken van de 'fleece strips' kan even wennen zijn maar zodra je het onder de knie hebt, werkt het heel erg vlot.

Wollyonline staat in de Libelle!

Gisteren kreeg ik een email van Evelyne Vereecke uit België dat Wollyonline in de Libelle stond. Ik schrok er echt een beetje van want dat is toch wel een hele eer hoor. Ik woon al een hele tijd niet meer in Nederland maar het tijdschrift Libelle herinner ik me natuurlijk erg goed, daar ben ik zelf jaren op geabonneerd geweest  : )

Mijn moeder heeft de Libelle in Nederland voor me gekocht en daar stond het artikel niet in, het staat in de Libelle uit België. Evelyne heeft de bladzijde dan ook voor me gescand, heel erg bedankt Evelyne want dit wilde ik natuurlijk wel laten zien. Ben helemaal trots!

MiloMila American Girl Doll Patterns!

MiloMila Doll Patterns is live! This is something that I have been wanting to do for a very long time but there was always something that needed my attention more or needed doing now and I kept postponing... this year, now that Wollyonline celebrates its 10th anniversary, it's a gift to myself to start a doll pattern line for American girl dolls on a new website!

The reason I split Wollyonline and MiloMila is that the markets are so different. MiloMila is for the American market, even the paper size of the MiloMila patterns needs to be different from the Wollyonline patterns so I felt I needed to split the two.

Please have a look, the site it's new and looks quite different in a similar way from Wollyonline.

Dit wilde ik al heel erg lang doen, een poppenkleertjes patroonlijn starten voor American Girl poppen en nu is het dan zover, de nieuwe site, MiloMila, is vandaag geopend.

De reden dat ik deze website heb gesplitst van Wollyonline is dat de Amerikaanse markt heel anders werkt. Om te beginnen hebben ze hier geen A4 papier maar 'Letter'. Daarnaast hebben alle patronen hier naadtoeslag en dat werkt toch echt heel anders.

Vandaag is het dus begonnen en nu heb ik mijn handen heel vol met de patronen voor Wollyonline digitaliseren en nieuwe patronen voor MiloMila te maken... 2012 is een heel druk jaar... en het is pas begin maart..... : )

Marijke Snoei maakte dit vrolijke jurkje

Vandaag laat ik twee creaties van Wollyonline klanten, Marijke & Daniëlle, zien. Deze berichten kwamen zo'n beetje op dezelfde dag binnen en allebei hebben ze het gratis patroon Een dagje uit, BD16F01 gebruikt. Zoals je kunt zien, valt roze goed in de smaak bij de poppenmoeders : )

Marijke heeft het gratis Wollyonline patroon gebruikt voor de BABY Born pop. Daniëlle maakte het jurkje en de bandana voor de Nenuco pop van haar kleindochtertje, die zie je hieronder.

Baby Doll sewing patterns for Baby Dolls 36cm tall

Summer Hearts, the Wollyonline doll pattern for 36cm tall baby dolls is available on the website.

This doll sewing pattern is suitable for beginners. The clothes are easy, have few pieces and use few notions. There is a separating zipper in the jacket and that technique needs to be known but for the rest, the clothes are all very easy. The shoes are small and a bit fiddly to make but they are really cute!

It's a large pattern that will allow you to sew: Jacket A, Dress B, T-Shirt C, Pants D/E/F, Skirt G, Pinafore H, Sunhat I, Bandana J and shoes K. A complete wardrobe in 1 pattern!

Het Summer Hearts Wollyonline patroon voor poppen van 36cm is vanaf vandaag verkrijgbaar op de website.

De kleertjes in dit patroon zijn eenvoudig te maken en erg geschikt voor beginners. Het jasje heeft een korte deelbare rits middenvoor, deze ritsen zijn moeilijk te vinden maar ik leg in de beschrijving uit hoe je zelf zo'n ritsje kunt maken van een langere rits. Dit is niet ideaal, dat weet ik, maar het werkt goed.

Met dit patroon kun je een volledige garderobe voor babypoppen van 36cm maken: Jasje, Jurk, T-shirt, 3 Broekjes, Rokje, Overgooier, Zonnehoed, Bandana en piepkleine Slofjes.

Baby Born Boy Basics patterns

It has been quite a week. We had rain the whole week and so my tennis matches rained out but you still have to wait and sit it out, then reschedule the match and guess what, get rained out again. This way tennis becomes a very time consuming hobby! I'm glad that I'm back behind my computer again. As see here, Boy Basics is digitized and added to the website.

With this Boy Doll Pattern you can make some cool doll clothes. I really like the plaid pants and the shirt with faux long sleeves peeking out. Let's not forget the hat with the two knows, it's as cute as can be and sure to be a success.

Het is echt een beetje een rare week geweest. Elke dag regen dus al mijn tennis wedstrijden regende eruit en de wedstrijden om dat weer in te halen regende er ook weer uit. Heel tijdverslindend en ik ben blij dat ik nu weer fijn achter de computer zit.

Het Boy Basics patroon staat op de site. Dit is een heel leuk patroon. De geruite broekjes zijn hip, het T-shirt met de 'twee' mouwen is heel cool en de muts met de knoopjes is een grote favoriet van me.
